Head coach Zack Nave and the Milligan College cycling program look to continue their successes as they host the fifth annual Milligan College Cycling Classic, scheduled to be held on campus and in and around Elizabethton and Piney Plats this Saturday and Sunday.

This year’s event will serve as the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference Championship.

The two-day event will kick off with the time trials at 8 a.m. Saturday morning at the front of Milligan’s campus. Saturday also will feature road races beginning and finishing at Mary Hughes School in Piney Flats at 11:45 a.m.

Sunday will be the most spectator-friendly day as it features the Historic Elizabethton criterium events. The biggest races of the day will be the women's A criterium at 12:45 p.m. and the men's A criterium, which is set for 12:55 p.m.

The opening stretch of the time trials will run down Milligan Highway toward Elizabethton before looping around to finish near the back side of Milligan’s campus. Riders are expected to cover the course in less than one hour.

The road race will feature a 22-mile loop with several waves of riders competing throughout the late afternoon and earlier evening. Each group will complete the loop multiple times.

Sunday's criterium will run around a half-mile loop beginning and ending at Bonnie Kate Theater in Elizabethton, and riders will make this loop numerous times.

The weekend will be the final event for the Buffs prior to the USA Cycling Collegiate Road Race National Championships, scheduled for May 10-12 in Augusta, Georgia.
