Galola L. Kendrick, 91, passed away at home on April 7, 2019. A native of Scott County, VA she had resided in Washington County, TN for most of her adult life. She was the last surviving child of the late Orban and Arlie Stallard and was also preceded in death by her siblings: Inez (George) Meade, Bernice (Jack) Burchfield, Glen (Elizabeth) Stallard, Fred Stallard, and Jack Stallard, and by a very special nephew, Billy Meade.
A homemaker for most of her life, she was educated in Scott County, VA schools, attended Radford College (University), taught school in Scott County, and also worked at North Electric Corporation.
Galola was an extraordinarily talented woman who enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and housework, but had a passion for growing and arranging flowers. She was an active and faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she served in many leadership capacities; however, she was best known for providing beautiful, creative flower arrangements from her rose and flower gardens for the church sanctuary for over five decades. She also custom designed arrangements free of charge for many special events, birthdays, and weddings, as well as for friends during illnesses and times of bereavement.
She is survived by: her devoted husband of 73 years, Roy Kendrick; faithful caregivers, daughter Jessie Bowser and husband Lee who was like a son to her; beloved grandson, Justin Bowser and wife Melissa; cherished great-grandsons, Jackson and Dylan Bowser; dear sisters-in-law, Dorothy Stallard and Florence Stallard; and several special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many dear friends and relatives for their numerous flowers, visits, cards, texts and calls during Galola’s illness. The family is especially appreciative of the items of food and meals that were supplied weekly for over seven months by wonderful, caring friends, several of whom provided multiple meals. Our special thanks to Brenda McDaniel for her unending supply of the banana bread that Galola loved and to devoted friends Agnes and Arthur Garland.
The family would also like to express appreciation to Ballad Hospice and especially to Crystal Chatman RN, Crystal Adams RN, and Angie Nelson CNA for their kind and loving care of Galola.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Washington County Memory Gardens (Exit 17 on I-26). A Memorial Service led by her grandson and great-grandsons will follow the visitation.
