Infrastructure work begins for new Dollar General

Grading work has begun on a new Dollar General store at the intersection of University Parkway and South Roan Street. The tract was rezoned for the 2,000-square-foot project by the Johnson City Commission in May of 2022. Traffic on a portion of South Roan Street was detoured Wednesday as city crews conducted infrastructure work near the site. Closure of South Roan Street between University Parkway and East Highland Avenue will remain in effect while the work continues. Officials hope the work will be completed, depending on the weather, by April 28. The daily closure will impact traffic between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
