Summer Reading 2023

Bomgardner adds a child’s handprint art to a display for this year’s summer reading program, which is themed ‘All Together Now.’ She said that part of the theme is to show that ‘little hands can do big things’ if they work together.

The Johnson City Public Library (JCPL) is getting ready for their annual summer reading event, which Suzy Bomgardner, the library’s new children’s library manager, says will be a fun and free way for families to avoid the “summer slide.”

As a librarian, parent and former educator, Bongardner said she has seen firsthand how detrimental it can be for students who do not practice their reading and learning skills over the summer while school is out.
