UPDATE: Man charged with attempted murder home invasion/shooting in Unicoi

UPDATE 12:15 a.m. Wednesday:

UNICOI — Unicoi police charged a local man with attempted first-degree murder following a home invasion and shooting here Tuesday.

Clayton Decatur Justis, 22, Unicoi, also was charged with especially aggravated burglary, aggravated domestic assault and possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony.

One person with a gunshot wound was flown by helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center after the shooting at 317 Massachusetts Ave. around 8:45 p.m.

About an hour after the shooting, police announced they had a suspect in mind and were working to apprehend him.

Justis was set to appear in court Wednesday morning.

UPDATE 9:52 p.m. Tuesday:

UNICOI — One person with a gunshot wound was flown by helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center after a home invasion in the town Tuesday night.

Police said the shooting happened in the vicinity of Massachusetts Avenue around 8:45 p.m.

“The police do have a male suspect and are working to apprehend him at this time” the town said in an updated news release issued about 9:45 p.m.

UNICOI — Police were investigating a home invasion and shooting in the town Tuesday night.

According to a news release issued by the town around 9 p.m., police were on the scene of a reported home invasion shooting in the vicinity of Massachusetts Avenue.

The release stated that more information would be forthcoming as the situation unfolds.
