Johnson County teacher charged with solicitation of a minor

MOUNTAIN CITY — A teacher in the Johnson County School System is facing a charge of attempted solicitation of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Craig Leeton Cox was arrested on the sex charge that had been brought as a presentment to a Johnson County grand jury.

According to the presentment, Cox is accused of attempting the solicitation by electronic communication and “intentionally attempting to persuade or induce a minor to intentionally engage in sexual activity, to-wit, lascivious exhibition of his genitals, and the purpose of the display can reasonably be construed as being for the sexual arousal or gratification of Cox.”

The presentment said the incident took place on or about March 25, 2018.

According to the Johnson County School System, Cox was placed on unpaid leave since Feb. 20 because of the investigation. Cox was arrested on April 8. He is scheduled to appear in Johnson County Criminal Court on June 5.
