Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers clocked a Knoxville man driving 124 mph on Interstate 81 in Washington County on Thursday, according to a report, resulting in the driver’s arrest on multiple charges.

The THP had been advised to look for a silver Honda Accord traveling at extremely high speed about 6:15 p.m. Trooper Nicholas Collins reported that the radar registered 124 mph in a 70 mph zone when troopers spotted the Honda at mile marker 51 in Fall Branch. The THP Northeast Tennessee headquarters is at exit 50.

Efren A. Sanchez, 30, told police he had no driver’s license and had consumed two beers. Collins reported he could smell an intoxicating liquor on Sanchez, who also had watery, bloodshot eyes. Collins said he also saw several empty alcoholic containers in the car.

Sanchez was taken to Johnson City Medical Center for a consensual blood draw and then to the Washington County Detention Center. He was charged with reckless driving, speeding, DUI, open container violation and driving with no license.
