HAMPTON — A man was arrested Saturday on several charges after witnesses told Carter County deputies he broke into a home on Dennis Cove Road and stabbed a woman.

John Allen Stout, 40, was charged with aggravated assault, arson, especially aggravated burglary and resisting arrest.

The charges come after deputies were called to Dennis Cove Road Saturday morning. Once on scene, they encountered a woman who appeared to have at least one stab wound.

Deputies then spoke to witnesses who told them that Stout broke into the home and stabbed the woman in the abdomen. Stout then threatened to burn everyone in the residence alive, at which point one of the residents picked up a baseball bat and hit Stout in the head. Stout then fled the residence.

Deputies arrested Stout approximately an hour later. The sheriff’s department said Stout attempted to fight back but was taken into custody.

The woman was transported to a hospital for treatment. She was reported to be in stable condition.

Stout is being held in the Carter County Detention Center on a bond of $80,000.
