A Jonesborough woman died from injuries she suffered in a Bristol Highway crash Saturday afternoon amid the “motor mile” strip of car dealerships.

Johnson City police said Whitney Martin, 23, was a passenger in a Chevrolet Camaro that had veered into the opposite lane of traffic at the intersection with Green Valley Drive. Martin was taken to Johnson City Medical Center, where she died.

Police were called to the scene about 4:30 p.m. In a news release, police said 23-year-old Ethan Morelock, Johnson City, was driving the Camaro north on Bristol Highway when the car went into the southbound lane and into the path of a Cadillac Escalade. The Escalade stuck the Camaro on the passenger side.

The Escalade’s driver, Johnny Yates, 73, Johnson City, was taken to JCMC with non-life-threatening injuries. Morelock was not injured.

The crash was under investigation by the Johnson City Police Department Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team.
