ELIZABETHTON— A man and woman were arrested on several charges after attracting the attention of police while driving around Elizabethton shortly after midnight Thursday.

The driver of the tan 2005 Ford Explorer was Ashley Maxine Tipton, 30, 3246 Highway 81 S., Jonesborough. Elizabethton Police Officer Joshua Baggett said he first noticed the vehicle as it was traveling eastbound around the 1500 block of West Elk Avenue.

He said as he continued to observe the vehicle, he noticed it crossed over the center line. That led him to conduct a traffic stop. He said he noticed the woman driver, later identified as Tipton, bent over the front driver seat.

He said he also noticed the passenger identified as Thomas Robert Jones, 41, 138 E. Highland Road, Johnson City, hunched over with his back to the officer, and that he was naked. Baggett said Tipton then informed him that she and Jones were “having kinky sex” and that “a gang and Adolf Hitler tried to drown Mr. Jones.”

Baggett said Tipton’s speech was “very erratic and confusing” and that there were several knives within reach in the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, officers reported finding a needle loaded with a clear substance, a glass smoking pipe and a bottle of pills. The officers said Tipton said the substance inside the needle was methamphetamine.

She was charged with driving on a revoked license, second offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of schedule II drug; possession of schedule IV drug; and a light law violation. A records check indicated that Tipton had an outstanding warrant from Sumner County on failure to appear on burglary and theft charges.

A records check indicated that there was an outstanding warrant on Jones out of Carter County on Jones, charging him with violation of probation.
