Man charged with biting Elizabethton police officer

ELIZABETHTON — Elizabethton police officers said a man they stopped because he was driving a car with a missing passenger side front tire was charged with simple assault after he bit one of the officers in the hand.

Officers said Nicholas Scott Oliver, 26, was stopped in the parking lot and was taking a field sobriety test when he attempted to flee on foot.

Police officers said they caught up with Oliver and a struggle ensued. Officer Jesse Richardson said as he was attempting to restrain Oliver “he proceeded to bite my right middle finger.” Richardson said he was wearing gloves and the bite did not cause a cut, but its did bruise the finger.

Richardson charged Oliver with simple assault. Oliver is scheduled to answer the charge on Jan. 28.
