THP: Three dead after nighttime crash in Erwin

ERWIN — The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed three fatalities after a head-on crash on I-26 in Unicoi County on Thursday night. 

According to the THP’s preliminary crash report, a 2001 Dodge Dakota driven by 42-year-old Tina Marshall, Jonesborough, was traveling the wrong way on I-26 West near mile marker 38 and slammed head-on into a 2019 Toyota CHR traveling westbound.

The CHR’s occupants, 23-year-old Anthony Owens of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, and 1-year-old Richard Owens, were killed in the crash. Marshall, who was not wearing a seatbelt, also died in the crash.

The THP had requested alcohol and drug tests on both drivers.

The crash was reported about 7:25 p.m.
