A Johnson City man accused of shooting at his wife, narrowly missing her head, was arrested last month on an attempted murder charge.

Robert Johnson, 58, was arrested after the incident at his 1716 Concord St. residence on Nov. 21.

Police were called to that address regarding a domestic disturbance. En route, they were advised that Johnson shot at the woman using a handgun. The woman locked herself with her son in the bathroom to hide from Johnson, police said.

The woman told police that when she got home from work she and her husband got into an argument that turned physical after he threatened to kill her.

According to a court document, Johnson had his wife down on the ground but she was able to push him off. Johnson walked toward a bathroom and made a comment about killing her. She told police Johnson got a handgun and fired one shot at her, which hit the door behind her. The woman got the couple’s 10-year-old son and ran upstairs to hide until police arrived.

When officers got to the scene, Johnson was in the backyard. He was ordered to show his hands, but would not. Officers were able to get Johnson contained and in handcuffs. They located a weapon lying on a nearby trash can, according to the court records.

Johnson was arraigned on the charges Nov. 22 and has a court date set for Feb. 3 in Washington County General Sessions Court. He was ordered to have no contact with the woman, who has filed for an order of protection. Johnson was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
