ELIZABETHTON — A two-car accident on U.S. Highway 19E at the intersection with Peter Hampton Drive on Tuesday afternoon involved a civilian car and driver with a Carter County Sheriff’s Separtment cruiser.

The accident was investigated by Lt. Richard Garrison of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Garrison reported that Carter County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Joe Malone, 41, was southbound on U.S. 19E at 4:18 p.m. in a 2018 Dodge Charger. Garrison said that as the cruiser neared Peter Hampton Drive, a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Dena Marie Wilson, 65, Elizabethton, pulled out from Peter Hampton Drive into the path of the cruiser, causing a front-end collision.

Garrison said Wilson had a passenger in her vehicle, Wanda Kay Goodwin, 71, Elizabethton. Both were injured and transported to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Garrison charged Wilson with failure to exhibit due care and no seat belt.

Garrison said Malone suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital. He was not charged.
