Teen killed as car split in half on Kingsport Highway

A teenager was killed Wednesday morning in a Kingsport Highway crash in Gray, Johnson City police reported in a news release.

Eric Bratton, 19, was killed about 7:30 a.m. near Dove Lane when his 1997 Toyota Camry struck a tree and split in half.

Police said Bratton was driving north at high speed when he lost control sideways, struck a curb and went airborne before striking the tree.

Bratton’s body was taken to the William Jenkins Forensic Center at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine.

The Johnson City Police Department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team was investigating.
