Three injured when motorcycle crashes into turning car

ELIZABETHTON — Three people were injured Tuesday when a motorcycle ran into the back of a vehicle making a left turn at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19E and Pine Trail at 3:50 p.m.

The crash was investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. According to the accident report, Roy W. Rethford, 70, Marion, Va., was driving a 3-wheeled 2004 Honda GL18000 Gold Wing northbound on U.S. 19E. A passenger on the motorcycle was Nina M. Sullivan, 68, Bristol, Va.

The second vehicle was a 2006 Subaru Outback driven by Karen L. Boone, 52, Roan Mountain. According to the report, Boone was stopped in the northbound lane of U.S. 19E in order to make a left turn onto Pine Trail.

The motorcycle hit the Subaru. Rethford was charged with following too closely.

Both Rethford and Sullivan were treated at Johnson City Medical Center’s Emergency Room. Boone was treated at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
