ELIZABETHTON — A Carter County man is facing pending charges from both an alleged road rage incident and a later crash Wednesday night.

Michael Lynn Richardson, 35, was injured and hospitalized following the wreck. The preliminary report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol said he “engaged in an unprovoked road rage.” The incident reportedly began at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the THP report, Richardson was traveling north on the Stoney Creek Highway in a 1995 Ford F150 pickup truck. He allegedly began ramming a northbound 2016 Ford Fusion driven by Heather Guinn, 35, Elizabethton.

Guinn sought safety by pulling into a Stoney Creek convenience store.

The THP report said that after Guinn pulled off the highway, Richardson continued northbound but failed to stay in his lane, went off the right side of the highway and struck trees. The pickup truck overturned, rolled and came to rest upside down in the 1700 block of the highway. The truck then caught fire and was soon engulfed in flames.

The THP said good Samaritans used first aid on Richardson and fought the fire until first responders arrived.

Richardson was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Guinn was transported to Sycamore Shoals Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
