UPDATE: Roan Mountain woman, 2 young children killed in Jonesborough crash

UPDATE: A Carter County woman and two young children were killed Friday in a fiery crash on U.S. Highway 11E near Jonesborough.

According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, 27-year-old Katie Gardner, 2-year-old Ginger Hooks, 2, and 5-month-old Gabriel J. Gardner, all of Roan Mountain, died after the woman’s car left the road, struck a utility pole and came to rest against two trees. The Chevrolet Impala burned.

Both children were properly restrained, but Katie Gardner was not wearing a seatbelt.

Next of kin had been notified.

The single-vehicle crash in the westbound lane near the highway’s intersection at Creasy Road was reported about 12:15 p.m. Traffic had been rerouted onto an eastbound lane.

Emergency crews were on the scene of what the Tennessee Highway Patrol called a “serious crash” on U.S. Highway 11E southwest of Jonesborough.

The single-vehicle crash in the westbound lane near the highway’s intersection at Creasy Road was reported about 12:15 p.m. Traffic had been rerouted onto an eastbound lane.

“This is a serious crash and our investigation is still on-going,” THP Lt. Richard Garrison said in an emailed statement. “We won’t have any details until after the investigation is complete. We will send a report then.”
