ELIZABETHTON — A Johnson City man was arrested by the Carter County Sheriff’s Department at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on charges he beat a family member several times on her arm, causing it to break.

John Hunter Stephens, 39, 1763 Bowman Road, Johnson City, was charged with aggravated assault under the Domestic Violence Law.

Deputies were called to Toll Branch Spur on Tuesday. They were met by the daughter of the victim, who told the deputies she had found her mother lying in the yard with a laceration to her arm and that it appeared to be broken.

The victim told deputies she had been arguing with Stephens and that he began to hit her with the bat. She told deputies he struck her several times in the arm, causing the arm to break. She said she then fell to the ground in the yard and was unable to move.

The woman told deputies she had been lying on the ground for several hours when her daughter finally came and found her.

Deputies said Stephens barricaded himself in the house.
