An Elizabethton man nearly struck a bystander after crashing into a parked vehicle several times early Thursday morning in downtown Johnson City, police said. Brandon L. Bowers, 28, was charged with reckless endangerment, failure to exercise due care, driving under the influence, simple possession of schedule I drugs and leaving the scene of the accident. About 3 a.m., police were called to the parking area at Tipton and Spring streets where the crashes occurred. Police said bystanders approached the vehicle to check on Bowers’ welfare and to get him to stop his vehicle. He fled the scene nearly striking one bystander, but no one was injured. Minutes later, police found the vehicle crashed at the intersection of South Broadway and Orleans streets. Bowers, 107 Rufus Taylor Road, Elizabethton, was held in the Washington County Detention Center under $5,000 bond pending a Sessions Court set for later Thursday.
