MEMPHIS — Police in Tennessee said a man fleeing authorities stole a patrol car and then crashed it before trying to flee on foot.

News outlets reported 37-year-old Michael Larson, of Memphis, was arrested on charges including stealing the patrol car.

Southaven police said officers were responding to a drug call Wednesday and encountered Larson, who they said had warrants out for his arrest in Horn Lake. The nature of the arrest warrants is unclear. Police said officers attempted to arrest Larson, but he stole the car and fled.

Police said he drove about 20 miles before crashing onto an elevated sidewalk and fleeing on foot. Memphis police said Larson fled to a home several blocks away and was later arrested.

Southaven police were investigating. It was unclear whether Larson had a lawyer.
