A Kingsport man was charged with robbing someone at gunpoint early Tuesday morning in Johnson City. Police also reported finding drugs during the investigation.

About 4 a.m., Johnson City police went to 915 E. Myrtle Ave. after a caller reported a man was threatening someone with a gun. Police encountered both people, one of whom fled on foot. As they chased the man, they saw him throw a gun and a package on top of an outbuilding, police said in a news release.

Police caught up with Deonte Tysheme Bristol, 22, 1334 E. Center St., Kingsport, and arrested him. They also retrieved the gun, which had been reported stolen, and the package, which contained 90 grams of marijuana.

Bristol was charged with aggravated robbery, felony possession of a schedule VI drug, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, evading arrest, and possession of stolen property. He was held in the Washington County Detention Center under $75,000 bond awaiting a Sessions Court appearance set for later Tuesday.

On Dec. 4, 2014, Bristol also was charged with possessing a stolen gun during a drug investigation in a Kingsport Taco Bell parking lot late. Charges included possession of a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony, unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of schedule II narcotics with intent to deliver, theft under $500 and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He again was arrested in 2016 and charged with unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon.
