An early morning shooting at a Johnson City trailer park Thursday left one man hospitalized while police searched for the shooter.

Johnson City police said they were called to Houston Mobile Home Park, 2719 S. Roan St., Lot 2, about 3 a.m. and found Thomas Carter, 46, with a single facial gunshot wound. Carter was hospitalized at Johnson City Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.

Capt. Matt Howell said investigators had spoken with people inside and outside the trailer. No one was in custody, but investigators had identified a person of interest.

In a news release issued later in the day, Lt. Kevin Peters said Carter was shot by an “unknown acquaintance.”

Howell said no gun was found at the scene.

Police had been unable to speak with Carter because he remained sedated, Howell said.

Peters reported that the investigation was in its preliminary stages with many people being interviewed.

Police asked for anyone with possible information relating to the shooting to contact the Johnson City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 434-6166.
