Johnson City woman crashes into Elizabethton police cruiser, no injuries reported

A Johnson City teenager was charged after a hit-and-run crash Saturday that involved an Elizabethton police officer, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman.

Jillian Sahibjohn, 19, was charged with failure to stop for a red light and failure to report a crash. The THP said the woman failed to stop at a red light at  East Elk Avenue and North Sycamore Street around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, and then she continued driving for several blocks before police found her.

Elizabethton Police Officer Aaron Bennett, 28, was traveling south on North Sycamore Street and was crossing through the intersection of East Elk Avenue with a green traffic signal displayed. According to the THP, Sahibjohn, was driving east on East Elk but didn’t stop for the red light at North Sycamore.

Neither driver was injured, and each was wearing a seat belt, according to the THP.
