According to a news release from the Johnson City Police Department, officers went to Aspen Ridge Apartments, 1112 King Springs Road, on a report of an older, bearded man who was intoxicated and pointing a gun. Police said when they arrived, officers were pointed to a man, later identified as Timothy Snipes, 64, who lives in Apartment 4 of the complex.
Police said Snipes was directed to put his hands up, but he began walking toward an apartment. Officers continued to give commands to Snipes, but he refused to comply. They subsequently made physical contact with Snipes and determined he was under the influence of an intoxicant. Police said they also found that Snipes had a revolver concealed in his waistband.
According to the release, police also made contact with the complainant, who said Snipes was pointing a gun at people outside while yelling at residents and guests to leave.
Snipes was charged with aggravated assault, public intoxication, possession of a firearm while under the influence and resisting arrest/detainment. Snipes was being held on $10,000 bond at the Washington County Detention Center. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Washington County General Sessions Court on Thursday.
