Johnson County shooting leads to attempted murder charge

MOUNTAIN CITY — One man was in critical condition at a local hospital and the other man was being held in the Johnson County Jail on a charge of attempted second-degree murder following a shooting at Pine Mountain Road on Wednesday.

Sheriff Edward Tester said Alfed William Pauley, 48, was charged with attempted second-degree murder following the investigation of the shooting.

Tester said the name of the victim has not yet been released to the public. He said the victim was transported to Johnson City Medical Center following the shooting.

Tester said his investigators have not yet had the opportunity to talk with the victim to determine the cause of the shooting.

Tester said his investigators were assisted by agents of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and deputies of the Ashe County, N.C., Sheriff’s Office.

Pauley was being held in the Johnson County Jail on $50,000 bond.
