Both drivers hospitalized after Hampton head-on collision

HAMPTON — Tennessee Highway 361 near the intersection with Hubbard Road was closed for a short time Thursday afternoon and the drivers of both vehicles involved in a head-on collision were transported to Johnson City Medical Center by helicopter. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the drivers as Jerry Brian Baird, 47, Hampton, and Brenna L. Jones, 24, Butler.

According to a preliminary report from the THP accident investigator, the collision occurred at 5:27 p.m., when Baird’s 1998 Dodge 1500 pickup truck crossed the center line of the highway and hit Jones’ 2009 Honda Accord.

Emergency personnel responded to extricate both drivers from the car and truck and prepared the victims for transport.
