ELIZABETHTON — A prisoner in the Carter County Jail is facing an additional charge after she wrestled several deputies and spit on one Saturday morning.

Terri Montgomery, 38, 134 Cemetery Lane, was charged with aggravated assault. She is scheduled to answer the charge today in Sessions Court.

Deputy Leslie Turriff said she and Deputy Carol Manis were in the process of taking Montgomery’s mat and blanket in accordance with lockdown procedure. She said Montgomery tried to come at the deputies. Turriff said Montgomery swung at her, but she grabbed Montgomery’s hand. She said Montgomery then spit in her face. She said Montgomery tried to spit again, so she went into the cell and pushed Montgomery down on her bunk.

Montgomery continued to resist as Manis placed a handcuff on her left hand. Corp. Jarrid Hawkins and Sgt. Brian McGinnis helped gain control of Montgomery. McGinnis then decided to take Montgomery to the booking area and place her in the suicide cell for observation.
