Virginia woman dies after crashing into Johnson City creek

A Virginia woman died Sunday night after her vehicle flipped into a ravine and crashed in a creek in Johnson City, police said Monday.

Lindsey Peters, 27, 3838 AP Carter Hwy., Hiltons, was pronounced dead at Johnson City Medical Center.

Police said Peters had been traveling on West Oakland Avenue just past State of Franklin Road when her vehicle left the road and went down an embankment. The vehicle came to rest on its top in the creek. Emergency Medical Services extricated Peters from the vehicle.

The investigation was being conducted by the Johnson City Police Department Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team. Police were called to the scene of the crash about 9:25 p.m.
