BLOOMINGDALE — A person of interest was in custody Wednesday afternoon following a fatal shooting at a home in Bloomingdale.

The incident was called in at about 1:20 p.m. from Latimer Street. The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office is currently not releasing details of the case, including the identity of deceased, potential suspect or events leading up to the shooting.

About three hours after it occurred, detectives were still processing the scene and conducting interviews. SCSO Capt. Andy Seabolt added that there is no danger to the public.

Two witnesses police interviewed at the scene were UPS employees. While working a route in their truck, a distraught woman apparently ran to their vehicle from the shooting, seeking help.

The Times-News later observed a female receiving treatment by EMS personnel in the parking lot of Vermont Church, about a block from where the shooting occurred.

Closer to the scene of the shooting, deputies transported away a man in the back of an SCSO cruiser. Whether or not he was involved in the incident was not immediately clear.

A press conference has been scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. Check back with TimesNews.net for updates as they are available.
