Woman charged after reportedly pulling gun during argument

Johnson City police arrested a woman Monday who reportedly pulled a gun during an argument over money.

According to a police department news release, Mable Chavez, 59, 407 Hamilton St., was charged with aggravated domestic assault.

Her arrest came after police were called to 601 W. Watauga Ave. in reference to a call about an assault. Officers made contact with a woman who said she had moved into the Hamilton Avenue residence with Chavez earlier this month. The woman told police that during an argument over money, Chavez became aggressive and begin to hit and shove her.

When the woman started to leave the residence, she told police that Chavez displayed a handgun and threatened to shoot her. The woman then fled the residence and went to 601 W. Watauga to await police.

A warrant was issued for Chavez’s arrest and she was taken into custody at her residence about 8:18 p.m. Chavez was taken to the Washington County Detention Center where she was held on $10,000 bond. Chavez is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
