Accused McDonald's killer dead of apparent suicide

HAMPTON — The Carter County Sheriff’s Department reported Wednesday that a man who had recently been charged with second-degree murder died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Deputies responded to a shooting call on Mountain View Circle in Hampton around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. They found 64-year-old Steve Mack Miller severely wounded inside a residence.

Miller was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center, where he died from the injury. Miller was out of jail on bond, after being charged in the Sept. 7 shooting of Alan Lyle Jansma in the parking lot of the McDonald’s Restaurant in Hampton.
