Kayla Walker, 28, was felony evading arrest, felony reckless endangerment, driving on a suspended license and reckless driving.
About 1 a.m., police saw a dark colored Saturn ION and a white vehicle going the wrong way on a one-way street at West Main Street and West Unaka Avenue. Police tried to stop both vehicles, resulting in the chase.
A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper was in the area and assisted police as the Saturn and the second vehicle ran through several red lights and drove at high speed to evade arrest.
Police said the Saturn appeared to be chasing the trooper, as he was following the white vehicle. Once the Saturn’s driver observed a secondary police vehicle, she fled north on the Bristol Highway.
The trooper followed the white vehicle into Sullivan County and was able to take that driver into custody. No further information was immediately available regarding that driver’s arrest.
Police later identified the Saturn’s driver as Walker and obtained a warrant for her arrest. She was arrested at her residence, 220 Main St., Piney Flats. She was held in the Washington County Detention Center on $21,500 bond with a Sessions Court appearance set for Thursday.
