ELIZABETHTON — The Carter County Sheriff’s Department has charged Steve Mack Miller, 64, of Hampton, with second-degree murder in Friday afternoon’s fatal shooting at the McDonald’s restaurant in Hampton.

The sheriff’s department is still withholding the name of the deceased in the shooting to make sure relatives have been notified.

Miller remained at the scene following the 4:25 p.m. shooting and was taken into custody by deputies who arrived shortly after the shooting.

Miller is being held in the Carter County Jail, with bond set at $400,000. He is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on Sept. 24.
