Police to speak about fatal Elizabethton shooting today

ELIZABETHTON — Police have scheduled a 3:30 p.m. news conference today to discuss the weekend fatal shooting in Elizabethton.

Capt. Shane Darling said police had conferred with 1st Judicial District Attorney General Ken Baldwin’s office, and both Darling and Police Chief Jason Shaw would address news media representatives at in the City Council chambers at City Hall.

Police reported Sunday that an early morning shooting had occurred at 220 W. I St. Police said one man had been shot. He was found with life-threatening injuries. He was taken by the Carter County Rescue Squad to a local hospital. Police responded to the shooting around 3:30 a.m.

A family member later confirmed that wounded man had died.

The police said the suspected shooter was found on the scene. Officers and investigators from the department were investigating the incident. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was assisting the police department.

No charges had been placed.
