Police: Man tried to use counterfeit bill, broke locked glass door as fled

A man was arrested Sunday after he tried to use a fake $20 bill and shattered a glass door, police said.

According to a Johnson City police news release, officers responded to a call from 409 S. Broadway St., where they were told a man, Dustin James, 23, Piney Flats, attempted to use a counterfeit $20 bill and while attempting to leave, ran into a locked glass door, breaking it.

While searching James, police said, they found 14 counterfeit $100 bills in James’s pocket.

James was charged with criminal simulation and vandalism and held at the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond with a Sessions Court appearance set for Tuesday.
