Man charged with 5th DUI after 4-car crash in Johnson City

A Gray man was arrested on his fifth DUI charge Monday after he crashed into three vehicles in Boones Creek, police said in a news release.

Police found that Matthew Newberry, 31, was under the influence of an unknown substance when he crashed into the vehicles at the intersection of Carroll Creek Road and North Roan Street. Newberry was traveling north on Carroll Creek Road, and the vehicles were stopped at the intersection.

Newberry has been convicted of DUI four previous times in Tennessee.

Newberry, 260 Springview Drive, was charged with DUI fifth offense, driving on a revoked license and failure to exercise due care. He was held at the Washington County Detention Center without bond awaiting a hearing set for Tuesday in Sessions Court.
