HAMPTON — The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported two unrelated fatal crashes in Carter County on Thursday.

In the first accident, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision between his motorcycle and a truck on the Mary Patton Highway in Carter County at 5:10 p.m. Thursday.

In the second accident, a driver of a pickup truck apparently fell asleep at the wheel on U.S. Highway 321, at 11:49 p.m., crossed the center line and crashed head-on into an oncoming car. The driver of the oncoming car was killed.

In the first accident, Trooper Greg Marlow reported that David Desgro, 58, Elizabethton, was driving a 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle when he pulled out from Gap Creek Road onto the Mary Patton Highway in front of a 2018 Hino Model 195 single-unit box truck. The truck was driven by William C. Caraker, 27, Sevierville. A passenger in the truck was George M. McCombs, 52, Speedwell. Neither occupant of the truck was injured according to the report.

After the collision, both vehicles became fully involved in fire, Marlowe reported. No charges were placed in the accident.

In the second accident, Trooper Brad Proffitt reported Adam R. Clawson, 22, Hampton, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 321 in a 2009 Dodge 1500 pickup truck. Proffitt said Clawson crossed the center line into the path of a 2010 Subaru Impreza driven by Deana C. Hartley, 47, Butler.

Hartley was killed and Clawson was injured in the crash.

Proffitt ordered drug and alcohol testing. He said criminal charges are pending.
