A 20-year-old Johnson City man was charged Tuesday with more counts of auto burglary and theft after police checked into a report about a stolen wallet.

Malcolm D. Hopson, 703 Hamilton St., was charged with auto burglary and theft under $1,000.

Early Tuesday morning, police were called to 158 E. Highland Road and encountered Hopson. Police said he had numerous items linked to multiple auto burglaries. He initially was charged with five counts of theft from a motor vehicle.

An additional report was made later that morning that described a wallet stolen from a vehicle on Georgia Street. Hopson was charged with another count each of auto burglary and theft. He was served with the new warrant at the Washington County Detention Center, where he was already held. A $2,500 bond was added to his existing $30,000 bond.

Hopson was set to appear Thursday in Sessions Court.
