According to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Bradley Steadman and Lt. Lee Cross were dispatched Sunday morning to 115 Pecanwood Drive, where a tree fell and took down nearby power lines.
As the deputies waited for BrightRidge workers to come and repair the lines, they noticed the house at that address was on fire. According to the release, Steadman and Cross rushed into the house and found 67-year-old Marguerite Hill collapsed at the front door. They carried her from the burning home and waited until emergency medical services arrived to treat her.
Hill was transported to an area hospital and treated for severe burns and smoke inhalation.
