The Washington County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning Wednesday about telephone scams after receiving multiple complaints, according to a WCSO press release.

The callers are telling citizens there is a warrant for their arrest due to missing jury duty and requesting that money be sent through the purchase of various types of gift cards to avoid prosecution, according to the release.

The scammers are using names of actual sheriff’s office employees.

The WCSO clarified that its office does not solicit money over the phone for any reason.

If you receive these calls or know the who is behind them, the WCSO would like you to report that information by calling 423-788-1414 or contacting your local law enforcement agency.
