High-end pickup trucks targeted

A rash of vehicle thefts along Johnson City’s motor mile — mostly high-end pickup trucks — has police investigators asking the public for help catching whoever is responsible.

The thefts include several pickups, including Dodge Rams, a Toyota Tundra and Tacoma and a GMC Sierra — from more than one dealership lot, and two RVs from A&L RV on the Bristol Highway, according to Johnson City Police Sgt. Don Shepard.

Two men were arrested on Thursday on charges of theft over $10,000 as well as drug charges after police said they were found in a truck taken Tuesday from Chaparral Pontiac Buick GMC, 3514 Bristol Hwy.

Steve Necessary, 42, was charged with two counts of theft over $10,000, possession of schedule II drugs (methamphetamine), possession of schedule III drugs (suboxone) and two counts of possession of schedule IV drugs (clonazepam and alprazolam).

Corey Jones, 27, was charged with possession of stolen property over $10,000, possession of schedule VI drugs (marijuana) and two counts of possession of schedule IV drugs (clonazepam and alprazolam).

Shepard said two trucks stolen from Carl Gregory this week were also recovered on Thursday and one of the recreational vehicles taken from A&L RV was found in the Sam’s parking lot in Bristol, Virginia. He said investigators were able to recover some evidence from the RV, and that will be processed in hopes of determining who took the vehicle.

Investigators are trying to determine if Necessary and Jones are related to the other thefts. Some video surveillance from the dealerships was also being reviewed, Shepard said.
