LAWRENCEBURG — A Tennessee sheriff and one of his high-ranking employees have been indicted on official misconduct charges.

News outlets report 71-year-old Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Rex Brown and 40-year-old Capt. Adam Brewer were arrested Thursday.

Brown is accused of allowing various county employees to use inmates for labor at personal residences or for other personal business. An investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and state comptroller’s office that began last year also found that he used his position as sheriff to release some defendants from jail without requiring them to pay the judge-ordered secured bond. He’s charged with official misconduct, use of inmate labor for personal gain and tampering with evidence.

Brewer is accused of falsifying time sheets. He’s charged with official misconduct.

It’s unclear whether they have lawyers.
