A stray bullet fired in an upstairs apartment injured a Bristol, Tennessee, woman a floor below, and police are investigating.

In a press release sent Wednesday afternoon, Bristol Police Capt. Terry Johnson said the victim was shot in the jaw at approximately 8:30 a.m. in an apartment at 1211 Broad St. She was transported to the Bristol Regional Medical Center and treated for injuries police said were not life threatening.

According to the release, the bullet was shot in the upstairs apartment, travelled through the floor and ceiling and hit the woman in the face.

Johnson would not say whether a shooter was in custody or sought by investigators, but only said he did not believe the incident posed any further danger to the public.

The release asked anyone with information related the shooting to contact investigator Jared Patrick at 423-989-5552 or call 423-764-TIPS or email [email protected] or [email protected] Johnson refused to say what kind of information would be helpful to investigators, whether it was an identity of a possible shooter or accounts from witnesses of a crime, but said those with information would know whether it would be helpful in wrapping up the investigation.
