Police said authorities in Mitchell County, North Carolina, sent information that Demetrius Bolden, 42, 419 Allen Drive, Kingsport, was wanted in a slaying in their jurisdiction and could be in the Johnson City or Kingsport area.
Johnson City investigators found Bolden in traffic, stopped his vehicle and took him into custody.
The Mitchell News Journal reported that Bolden is accused of shooting and killing Lincoln Adam Young, 28, in Buladean, which is just across the Tennessee line from Erwin.
An arrest warrant on a charge of felony murder was issued for Bolden, according to Mitchell County Sheriff Donald Street, the News Journal reported. Bolden fled the scene of the shooting but was apprehended around noon Tuesday by police in Johnson City. North Carolina authorities interviewed Bolden shortly after his arrest.
Street told the News Journal the shooting followed a previous arrest at the Buladean location involving a vehicle stolen from Tennessee. A deputy arrested Sean Michael McLaughlin, 24, 181 Sunrise Drive, Elizabethton, and charged him with possession of a stolen vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of methamphetamine.
Bolden went to the Buladean residence to pick up McLauglin’s girlfriend, but the woman decided not to leave. An argument followed, and Bolden shot and killed Young, the sheriff said.
Bolden was charged in Washington County with being a fugitive from justice. He was held in the Washington County Detention Center without bond awaiting in a Sessions Court appearance set for Wednesday.
