HAMPTON — A man who was playing basketball behind Hampton’s First Baptist Church has been accused of vandalizing one of the church’s security cameras.

Deputy Russell Broadway of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department reported that the church security system showed that a young man with short brown hair, wearing a red shirt and dark sweat pants, was playing at a basketball goal at the rear of the church.

Broadway said video footage shows the man throwing a basketball at the camera several times until he hit it and damaged it. A church official said the vandalism caused about $100 in damage.
