Deputies have arrested an Elizabethton man after publicizing surveillance images of him stealing a weed trimmer from a garage in Gray last month, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said Monday.

Terry McDavid Shephard, 31, was arrested Friday following an investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Johnson City Police Department and the Elizabethton Police Department.

On March 8, a home security camera system captured video of a man entering the garage area of a home in the Wiltshire Subdivision of Gray and stealing the trimmer. He was described as a white man wearing a blue hooded jacket and blue jeans.

The man then walked to the road and was picked up in a truck be believed to be a white Ford Ranger with a tool box in the back. On March 29, the Sheriff’s Office released images from the video to local news media.

Investigators tracked Shephard to a home in Elizabethton and found the vehicle used in the burglary, as well as various clothing items Shepherd was wearing while committing the burglary, Graybeal said Monday in a news release.

He was taken into custody on a previous failure to appear warrant from Washington County and later charged with aggravated burglary and theft of property. More charges are pending.

Shepherd, 1001 Circle Drive, Elizabethton, was held at the Washington County Detention Center on $44,000 bond and was set to be arraigned Monday in Sessions Court.
