A Washington County fugitive has been arrested in Brevard County, Florida following a manhunt, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Porter Grindstaff, 33, 128 Sheffield Circle, Gray, was wanted in connection with an aggravated assault at Sheffield Circle mobile home park in Gray, according to Sheriff Ed Graybeal.

On Nov. 29, deputies said Grindstaff confronted the driver of a church van regarding a dispute involving a family member and one of the passengers in the van. During the argument, Grindstaff allegedly pulled out a knife, threatened the victim and refused to allow him to leave. According to the release, Grindstaff fled the scene after the driver called 911.

After a month-long manhunt involving the Johnson City Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Grindstaff was found by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and taken into custody on Dec. 29. He was charged with being an out of state fugitive with no bond, pending his extradition.

Upon his return to Washington County, Grindstaff will face one count of aggravated assault, six counts of false imprisonment, driving on a suspended license, motor vehicle theft and failure to appear. He will be held in the Washington County Detention Center on $19,000 bond.
