Darling is a 13-year veteran of the department and has worked for seven years with the department's K-9 unit.
Darling has also worked seven years as a sergeant in the Patrol Division before he was assigned to Criminal Investigations, where he worked special victims cases, such as child abuse cases.
He has received extensive additional training in such areas as interviews and interrogation, emergency management training and management training.
As a field training officer, Darling has worked closely with many of the department's new officers over the years.
Darling grew up in Indiana. He said before moving to the South, he lived in Knightstown, which was the location where the movie "Hoosiers" was filmed. He has lived in Elizabethton for so long that he now considers it to be home.
"I am looking forward to talking with Chief Shaw about what goals he wants to accomplish for the division," Darling said.
