Police confirm robbery at Johnson City bank

Officials with the Johnson City Police Department said that a robbery that occurred at 2:53 Wednesday afternoon at a local bank has been turned over to the FBI. 

Johnson City Police Chief Mark Sirois confirmed Wednesday that someone robbed The Tri-City Community Bank, 2867 Boones Creek Road, but didn’t give any more details of the robbery. Emergency radio communications said the robber was wearing a gorilla mask and that officers were on the lookout for a gold Honda Accord that fled the scene in the eastbound lane of Interstate 26 toward Erwin.

Johnson City Police Chief Mark Sirois confirmed that someone robbed a bank on Boones Creek Road Wednesday afternoon. 

Sirois told the Johnson City Press that someone robbed Tri-City Community Bank, 2867 Boones Creek Road, Wednesday afternoon. Sirois didn’t say whether anyone had been arrested for the robbery or whether police were looking for a suspect as of 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
